The GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV that was engineered to shine in conditions you meet in life. The Yukon was built with stability, performance, and safety at the forefront of its design. Every Yukon half-ton model features a Votec engine, which has a V-8 that features a technology called “Active Fuel Management,” or AFM. This technology detects when extra power is not necessary and deactivates half of the eight cylinders temporarily. When it deactivates these four cylinders, it closes intake and exhaust valves, which cuts the fuel delivery. In 2010 Yukon models, there is a user-controlled “Fuel-Saver Mode” which allows the drive to choose to run longer in the four cylinder mode. Still, your V-8 power is always available whenever you require full torque or a speedy acceleration.
In addition to a superior engine, Yukon was also designed with your needs in mind. Trailering with your Yukon can be done not only with the power you need, but also with the comfort of you and your passengers. The strong frame plus the horsepower and torque from the Vortec engine and the transmission Tow/Haul mode work with the StabiliTrak and traction control to allow your trailering to have power while still keeping you comfortable and in control. Another great feature of the Yukon for trailering is the available Rearview Camera System. The additional feature has a camera built-in near the rear license plate that switches on whenever you put your Yukon in reverse. This image is displayed in a portion of the rearview mirror, allowing you to use your mirror and see even more of what’s behind your car, making backing up to a trailer much easier. Yukon is ready for your trailering needs, even if you need to tow up to 9600 pounds (maximum trailering rating for the Yukon XL 2500 2WD model).
GMC also offers the Yukon in two hybrid models, the Yukon Hybrid and the luxurious Yukon Denali Hybrid. When compared with the standard engine on other Yukon models, the Yukon Hybrid has improved fuel economy for city driving by an estimated 40% when compared to the non-hybrid engine. The Yukon Hybrid seamlessly transitions between the use of electric power, engine power, or a combination of the two. These changes can be monitored on the power flow display, which lets you know what kind of power you’re vehicle is using. Everything is detected to select the Yukon’s best performance and fuel economy. Another great thing about the Yukon Hybrid is that stop-and-go driving can actually be a good thing! When applying the brakes while driving, Regenerative Braking goes to work, capturing the energy created when the vehicle decelerates. The energy is stored as electricity for your battery pack, which is ready for the next time you accelerate, and means that the Yukon Hybrid doesn’t need to be plugged in at night. The hybrids are also build with reduced mass components to even further the fuel efficiency.
